The Carezza lake is located in the “Sciliar-Catinaccio, Latemar” system of the UNESCO Dolomites. It is a popular destination in the Dolomites and one of its icons. Moreover, it is a good example of a high-altitude lake landscape. The visual impact of the lake is quite dramatic, thanks to a combination of features: its mirror-like effect due to the depth of the lake and its still surface, its transparency and the colours of the water. The lake has no tributaries and is fed by melting snow and an underground spring, causing the level of the water to rise and fall significantly. The spectacular Torri di Latemar, often compared to giant organ pipes, are reflected in its surface.
