The route along the lakeside affords a spectacular view of the Campa group and the superb, majestic crags of the peaks of the northern chain of the Dolomiti di Brenta: Cima Uomo, Cima delle Livezze, Sasso Rosso, Cima Sassara, Cima del Vento, Corno di Denno, Cima Flavona and Pietragrande. The lake is famous because it used to turn deep red in summer, due to the mass flowering of a red algae that takes its name from the lake: Tovellia sanguinea. Tovel Lake is a popular and iconic destination in the “Dolomiti di Brenta” system of the UNESCO Dolomites as well as a splendid example of a high-altitude lake landscape.
