Dobbiaco Lake is a popular destination in the Dolomiti di Sesto and one of its icons. It is a splendid example of a high-altitude lake landscape.

The visual impact of the lake is very dramatic, thanks to a combination of features: its mirror-like effect due to the depth of the lake and its still surface, its transparency and the emerald green colour of the water. The itinerary around the lake gives a spectacular view over the Picco di Vallandro group and Croda dei Baranci, separated by the Landro Valley.

The rocks of the Sesto Dolomites which surround the lake preserve the various stages in the evolution of the Triassic archipelago. The extraordinary temporal continuity of these specimens indicates that they suffered little disturbance from the volcanic activity of the mid-Triassic period.
