Monte Rite

The viewing platform is the first one among those unveiled in the Province of Belluno.

It is located in the municipality of Cibiana di Cadore at 2090 m a.s.l. The fossiliferous dolomite rocks of mount Rite are an evidence of the first structures built up by organisms in the geological history of the Dolomites. The reddish and brecciated segments in the cliffs (paleokarst) are the remains of the time, in which oscillations of the sea level periodically covered and exposed the upper part of the islands.

The viewing platform offers a panorama on part of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park and of the Dolomiti Friulane Natural Park. In foreground there are Mount Penna, Mount Pelmo, the mountain ridge of the Rocchette, Mount Antelao – “king of Dolomites”, the massif of Croda Marcora and Sorapis, Mount Duranno and the mountain ridge of the Spalti di Toro. In background there are the mounts Croda da Lago, Monti del Sole, Tofane, Croda Rossa, Cristallo and lastly Mount Cridola in the Dolomiti Friulane.
