Covering an area of over 620 km², the Park encompasses two distinct territories, the Brenta Dolomites group with its sedimentary rock formations, and the Adamello-Presanella granite massif with its vast glaciers.
The Park was set up in 1967 and its woodland, dotted with more than eighty lakes, is home to a large population of chamois and a small number of Alpine brown bears.
The protected territory in both areas is crisscrossed by paths of varying difficulty and in the summer in particular, the Park organises a variety of activities for visitors to learn about the local flora and fauna.
The Visitor Centres (Case del Parco) have displays illustrating a number of different themes: Lake Tovel, known as the “red lake”, at the Tuenno centre; the reintroduction of the bear at Spormaggiore; general information about fauna at Villa De Biasi-Daone and Rio Bianco-Sténico and age-old traditions (Casa del Parco “C’era una volta”) at San Lorenzo in Banale.
The Park’s headquarters are located in Strembo. In the summer the Park’s staff work in Val di Genova (Ponte Verde and Casina Ex Elvio), Val di Fumo, Vallesinella, Val d’Algone (Brenta car park) and Val di Tovel, providing visitors with information and advice, as well as carrying out their routine maintenance duties.
