Via Imperialis
They look like castles and can be seen in many villages throughout the Dolomites: these manor houses and palaces are now connected thanks to „Via Imperialis“.
A large area of the Dolomites were under Habsburgs rule between 1740 and 1914. This part of the “White Mountains”, where German-speaking and Italian-speaking people used to live and still today live together, has always given important cultural impulses to the population.
As a “left over” of the bygone centuries many castles and manor houses can be found in this area. The project “Via imperialis” connects the most important buildings with different route suggestions. All the buildings are relevant for the region under both a historical and cultural view.
The project wants to underline the importance of these buildings for the past and the tourism of the present.
