Gorge walk
The “Serrai di Sottoguda” is a very impressive gorge at the feet of the Marmolada, the highest mountain in the Dolomites.
Water in frozen or liquid form was the basic element which formed the canyon. Thus, the glaciers were the first to carve deep grooves into the stone. After the ice age it was the water to continue the work of the ice.
The gorge has a width of eight to ten metres and the walls on both sides have a height of up to 50 metres. The whole canyon has a length of approximately two kilometres. Hiking through the canyon in the summer is striking enough, doing so in the winter, when frozen waterfalls hang from the rocks like curtains, makes it an even more extraordinary experience. And doing this at night with torches is simply amazing. This is precisely what you may experience when joining the organised tours. You can join in every Thursday at 9.30 pm starting from 12th January to 31st March 2006. And at the end of the free guided tour a cup of hot mulled wine awaits all the hikers.
